There are several ranges of hills, chiefly in the north and west. The Great Alfold (Great Hungarian Plain), with fertile agriculture land, occupies nearly half of the country. Hungary's two most important rivers are the Danube and the Tisza. Lake Balaton, is the largest lake in central Europe. The forests cover nearly one-fifth of the land.
